How do you stay motivated?
Posted in Ramblings on January 15, 2009 at 7:12 pm by BeckyThe last few days, I haven’t felt like working out. I decided to move my “rest day” to Tuesday since I had a roast in the crock pot all day (10hours … yikes) and I was cold. But Wednesday, I used the excuse that I was tired. Today I used the excuse that I was cold, tired, and ticked off from my drive home from work. All excuses rather than real reasons.
I have been eating better and in smaller portions and cut down on pop (I’ve been limiting it to meals, but I have needed a can the past 2 mornings since I’ve felt so tired. But I haven’t had any at home, so I’ve still been at only 2 cans a day.). I’ve been staying under my calorie budget every day since I set up the Lose It! app. But even if I keep eating the way I have been, I still need to exercise to lose weight. Last week I lost 4 pounds. With me not exercising for 3 days this week (I WILL exercise tomorrow dammit
), I’m afraid I won’t lose anything this week. But I’m not going to let my few days of laziness completely break me.
I’m wondering what you do to motivate yourself to keep working out. I am greatly in need of some motivation. Maybe I should go to the mall this weekend and try on jeans. LOL That will motivate me to lose weight.

Congrats on losing 4lbs already! That is pretty sweet. Staying motivated is so hard – I went and got a latte today because it was “happy hour” even though I could have just made some tea at home. That reminds me: since you are having trouble kicking pop and need a caffeine kick in the mornings you could try green tea instead. This article has some good reasons to switch to tea: http://feeds.gawker.com/~r/lifehacker/full/~3/391674787/why-tea-is-healthier-than-water
Basically – to stay motivated I have been going to yoga classes! The instructor helps me refocus and give lots of support for healthy living. Reading your blog also helps!

Again, congratulations on losing 4lbs! Many people I work with don’t lose that much in the initial stages of their weight loss programmes – steady loss is healthy and more likely to stay ‘lost’ in the long term, so don’t be hard on yourself. If you’re feeling tired, have a look at how much protein you’re consuming. Most women require between 70g & 90g each day but very few of us actually meet that goal without assistance. If you can do it, it will help your energy levels enormously. Keep it up, you’re doing great! (Love your blog, too..

I’m still trying to get motivated to begin.
Four pounds is a great start.
